Choosing the right table layout for your wedding is never simple. Sometimes, space limitations or rental costs from the caterer make round tables the more practical option. However, when space and budget allow, the “imperial” or “head” table can be a truly stunning and memorable choice.
This type of table can take on various shapes: long and straight, T-shaped, or even horseshoe-shaped. What matters most is having enough space to accommodate an elaborate and visually impressive setup.
Couples are often drawn to the imperial table for the dramatic visual impact it creates. That’s why floral arrangements play a key role. You have two main styling options:
- Individual centerpieces, placed close together along the entire length of the table—potentially in different heights to add movement. This is the more budget-friendly solution.
- One long, continuous centerpiece, lush and compact, no taller than 30–35 cm. This option is more striking but also more expensive.
To enhance the mood, consider adding candelabras or candle holders, which add a magical and romantic atmosphere. No matter what you choose, remember that with imperial tables, every detail counts—everything needs to be perfectly coordinated. Of course, this applies to round tables too!
Here are a few measurements to keep in mind:
- Ideal table width: 120 cm. You can go up to 140 cm, but avoid going below 100 cm, or the “wow” effect will be lost.
- Recommended spacing between guests: 70 cm is ideal, but 50 cm can work (never less!).
- Length: There’s no limit, especially for outdoor receptions.
- With imperial tables, the couple usually sits at the center, surrounded by their closest friends and family, both beside and across from them. If you’re expecting a large number of guests, individual place cards are a must so everyone knows where to sit.
A minor drawback to consider: guests seated at the far ends of the table may feel slightly left out of the main action. Also, serving meals at a long table can be more challenging for the staff compared to round tables.
But don’t worry—if you choose an imperial table, the final effect will be elegant, impressive, and far from ordinary.
