Floral décor plays a key role in every wedding—but especially during the ceremony. It’s the first impression your guests will have, and for that reason, it deserves thoughtful planning and detailed styling.
First and foremost, consider the season and the weather you might expect. Every flower has its season, and choosing blooms that are in season is always the smartest (and most sustainable) option.
In religious ceremonies, flowers—along with the church’s architecture—set the scene. The placement of arrangements inside the church is essential: typically, you’ll have two large arrangements at the entrance, two near the couple’s chairs or behind them, one on the lectern, and one or two on the altar. For added impact—especially for photos—decorate the pews or guests’ chairs as well.
For civil ceremonies held at a venue, you might place two arrangements at the entrance, create a floral arch, or set flowers on either side of the officiant’s table. You can also decorate the guest seating here.
Civil ceremonies in town halls tend to be simpler: a few floral touches on the couple’s chairs and at the entrance will usually suffice, using soft colors and small arrangements to keep the mood intimate and respectful.
One golden rule: make sure your ceremony florals match the reception décor—and the bride’s bouquet!
